All Inclusive Holidays to Portugal with On The Beach

an image

Portugal is one of the strongest short-haul all-inclusive destinations going, properly sunny, properly cheap, and properly geared for the package. Around 300 days of sunshine a year on the Algarve coast, fresh seafood and proper Portuguese food at every resort, English spoken everywhere, and direct flights from most UK airports landing at Faro in under three hours. Most of Portugal's all-inclusive resorts cluster in the Algarve, with Albufeira carrying the deepest selection of family-and-groups properties and Vilamoura bringing the more upmarket marina-and-golf option, going all-inclusive to Portugal means everything is taken care of before you even take-off.

Group all-inclusive holidays to Portugal

Portugal's all-inclusive Groups scene is concentrated in two areas. Albufeira is the headline Groups base, the 2km Avenida Sá Carneiro (aka The Strip) carries the late-bar and club scene, and a handful of adults-only and adult-friendly resorts sit within a five-minute walk for the back-to-the-pool day after. Vilamoura is the upmarket Groups option, marina cocktail bars, championship golf, late-evening dining and a quieter back-to-the-resort vibe than Albufeira.

Where to stay in Portugal

Got your heart set on one of our all-inclusive holidays to Portugal, but can't decide where to jet to? Well, for all you beach bums and sun-chasers, the Algarve is practically screaming your name. This southern gem stretches along 150km of stunning coastline with over 100 gorgeous beaches, year-round sunshine (we're talking 300+ days!), and average summer temps of 28°C - proper beach weather sorted.

All-inclusive Algarve holidays are where Portugal's all-inclusive game is strongest. All-inclusive Albufeira holidays put you right in the heart of it. Albufeira is one of our top picks for Portuguese all-inclusive action - this buzzing resort town's got that perfect mix of beautiful beaches, lively nightlife, and family-friendly vibes. Top tips on making the most of your All-Inclusive Portugal holiday

📋 Check what's actually included - not all all-inclusive packages are created equal! Some cover all meals, snacks, and drinks (including alcohol), while others might have restrictions on premium brands or certain restaurants. Have a quick look at what's included in your specific package so you know exactly what you can enjoy without reaching for your wallet.

🍽️ Try everything on offer - you've paid for it, so make the most of it! Sample different restaurants if your resort has multiple dining options, order that cocktail you've never heard of, try Portuguese dishes you can't pronounce - this is your chance to properly expand your taste buds without worrying about the bill. Don't skip the snacks between meals either. All-inclusive is your opportunity to discover new favourites and find out what you actually like (or don't!) without spending an extra penny.

🍴 Book à la carte restaurants early - many all-inclusive resorts have specialty restaurants (Italian, seafood, etc.) that need booking in advance. Get these sorted on day one or even before you arrive if possible - the popular spots fill up fast, especially during peak season!

🎾 Take advantage of activities and entertainment - your package often includes way more than just food and drink. Water sports, fitness classes, kids' clubs, evening shows - it's all there for you to enjoy. Check the daily programme when you arrive and pick out what sounds good rather than just lounging by the pool all week (though that's brilliant too!).

🗺️ Venture out for at least one day - all-inclusive is fantastic, but Portugal's got so much to see! Book a day trip or two to explore local towns, visit beaches outside the resort, or see some culture. You can always stock up on snacks and drinks from the resort before you go, and you'll come back with stories to tell.

Use the resort facilities at quieter times - pools and restaurants get busiest around typical meal times. Have breakfast a bit earlier or later, grab lunch when everyone else is at the pool, and you'll have a much more relaxing experience. Early morning pool sessions before the sun gets too hot? Absolute bliss.

👶 Make the most of kids' clubs - if you're travelling with children, the kids' clubs at all-inclusive resorts are usually included and absolutely brilliant. The little ones get entertainment, activities, and new friends, while you get some proper relaxation time. Everyone wins!

What's included in a Portugal all-inclusive holiday?

The standard package covers buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner, local drinks (house wine, Sagres or Super Bock beer, basic spirits, soft drinks, water, tea, coffee), a selection of cocktails, pool and beach access, and evening entertainment. All-Inclusive Plus or 24h upgrades typically add à la carte themed restaurants (Portuguese, Italian, seafood), branded spirits, and sometimes airport transfers. Excursions, motorised watersports, spa treatments and premium spirits are usually extra.

Where's the best base in Portugal for a first-time all-inclusive trip?

Albufeira is the safe first-time pick for most travellers. Deepest selection of all-inclusive resorts, sandy beaches, walkable Old Town, easy day trips to Benagil Cave and the inland villages, plenty of restaurants for nights out beyond the resort. Vilamoura suits couples wanting upmarket and golf-friendly, Lagos suits younger groups wanting the cliff-and-cove coastline, Madeira suits year-round travellers wanting cooler-weather hiking-and-scenery alongside the resort.

Is Portugal family-friendly for all-inclusive?

Properly so. The Algarve all-inclusive resorts are some of the best-set-up family properties in Europe, kids' clubs from age 3 or 4, on-site splash parks at Jupiter Albufeira and similar, big sandy beaches, water parks like Zoomarine and Slide & Splash within 30 minutes of most Albufeira resorts. English is spoken everywhere, locals are warm with kids, and the standard buffet handles fussy eaters easily.

Do Portuguese all-inclusive hotels accept stag and hen parties?

Many do, several explicitly don't. Resorts like Auramar Beach Resort and Jupiter Albufeira state in their booking terms that stag and hen parties aren't accepted, and a number of properties ask groups of 4+ adults to leave a per-person damage deposit at check-in (commonly £85 to £215 in Euros, refundable on departure). Always check the specific hotel's group policy before booking.

How much spending money do I need for Portugal all-inclusive?

For a couples' week with light off-resort spending, around £150 to £250 per person on top of the package handles a Benagil Cave boat trip, a couple of off-resort dinners, vineyard tour, transport and souvenirs. Families should plan around £300 to £450 across the trip on the same basis. Groups looking at multiple Strip nights in Albufeira, paid Vilamoura marina dining or activity-heavy days (golf, watersports, paid excursions) should bring more, £400 plus per person realistically.

Is all-inclusive available in Madeira and the Azores?

Madeira yes, with a healthy spread of mid-range and luxury all-inclusive resorts mostly clustered around Funchal and Canico. Year-round mild weather makes it a winter-sun option that the Algarve isn't. The Azores are a different proposition, very few all-inclusive properties, the islands sell on hiking, whale-watching, volcanic landscapes and slow-pace travel rather than the beach-and-buffet template. If all-inclusive is non-negotiable, the Algarve and Madeira are the two viable Portugal options.
