🌡️ How hot do you want it?

We've used the standard hot sauce scale so you can pick your trip by heat....

🌤️ Mild (around 24 to 27°C)

Madeira is the standout mild-July pick, daytime temperatures sitting around 23 to 26°C with steady Atlantic breezes and almost no rain. Properly comfortable for hiking, exploring Funchal, or beach days where you don't need to hide indoors at midday. The sea sits at 22°C, which is cooler than the Med but very swimmable. A solid choice if 35°C+ days sound like punishment rather than holiday.

☀️ Hot (around 28 to 33°C)

The bread and butter of July, peak Med-summer heat. The Algarve sits around 28 to 30°C with cooling Atlantic breezes. The Balearics, the Greek Islands and the Spanish costas all run at 28 to 32°C, with the sea at 25 to 27°C. Cyprus and the Turkish Riviera (Antalya, Bodrum, Dalaman) push 33 to 34°C, with seas at 27 to 28°C. This is the sweet zone if you want guaranteed beach weather without it being too brutal to leave the pool.

🔥 Very hot (35°C and beyond)

If proper desert heat is the brief, Marrakech regularly hits 36 to 38°C, with dry-heat days that can climb past 40°C. Egypt's Red Sea coast at Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada runs around 38°C in the day, cooler at night and saved by sea breezes. Dubai tops the lot at 41°C-plus daytime highs (and humid with it), where the smart move is pre-booking the all-inclusive package and a hotel with aircon.

NOS Alive – Portugal

If you want to combine a city break with a world-class music festival, NOS Alive in Lisbon is the absolute dream. Taking place on the sunny riverside of Algés, this festival is legendary for its "beach by day, bands by night" routine. You’re only a short train ride from Lisbon’s buzzy centre, meaning you can fill up on custard tarts (Pastel de Nata) and explore the cobbled streets before heading to the festival grounds as the sun sets over the Tagus River. The line-ups are always massive (think stadium-fillers and top indie acts), and because the whole venue is paved or covered in astro-turf, you can leave the wellies at home and stick to your trainers. It’s sun, songs, and sangria - what more could you want? Dates for 2026: 9th – 11th July.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are July holidays expensive?

Holidays during the summer months - especially when the kiddos are out of school - are always a bit on the pricer side, because...well, everyone wants 'em! But don't worry - if you book at least 45 days in advance with us, then we've got our trusty low-deposits to cushion the blow, so you can bag your break for a bargain price, and then split the cost with our FlexiPay scheme. We got you.

Where's the best place to go on holiday in July?

The headline July destinations all deliver: Spain, Greece, Portugal and Turkey are at peak summer character with sea temperatures, festivals and beach scenes all firing.

If you want something quieter or more about exploring than sunbathing, Croatia along the Dalmatian coast or southern Italy (Puglia, the Amalfi Coast, the Aeolian islands) bring the same heat and sea with a different rhythm. The honest answer is that July's strength is breadth, almost everywhere we sell is at its best.

Is July a good time to go on holiday?

July's a great time to go on holiday! It's when summer comes into full swing, the kids are out of school, and most hotels are at their busiest during this time of year - which means you can take advantage of seasonal facilities, entertainment and jam-packed activity programmes 💃

Which country is cheapest in July?

Peak summer doesn't always have to mean peak prices! Costa Brava in Spain comes out on top as one of the cheapest places to catch some July sun, along with Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol. Who said summer sun has to Costa lot? 😎

How can I avoid the July crowds?

Opt for lesser-known destinations like the Azores or Montenegro. Even in popular spots, heading to the less touristy towns or islands can make a world of difference. Also, consider travelling in the first week of July – the crowds tend to get heavier as the month goes on.

What's the best week of July to go?

The first two weeks of July (1st to 14th) are when the Med has properly warmed up but the bulk of UK and European school holidays haven't started yet, so resorts feel slightly more relaxed. Mid-July (15th to 21st) is when the festival calendar is at its busiest, Tomorrowland, Benicàssim and Mad Cool all run in this window, so factor that in if you're heading to those destinations specifically. Late July (22nd to 31st) is the heart of the family-holiday peak with full kids' clubs, packed beach scenes and the longest evenings, the headline summer experience. Each week's got its character, the right one depends on what you want.
